A listing contact form should create a usable lead

A visitor who wants to ask a question should not have to search for an email address, leave the directory, or wonder whether anyone received the message. The Listdom Connect Addon turns a contact action on a listing or profile into a private inquiry that the right people can find and follow up on.

That makes a listing contact form more than a button. It becomes a clear path from a visitor’s question to an owner’s next action.

How a Connect inquiry moves through your directory

The path is deliberately simple:

  1. A visitor uses Contact Owner on a listing, or Contact User on a profile.
  2. Listdom records the sender’s name, email address, phone number when supplied, message, and the listing or profile that prompted it.
  3. The listing owner receives a private inquiry to review and follow up on.
  4. An administrator can oversee the same inquiry when needed.

This gives each message context. An owner can see what the visitor was viewing instead of receiving an isolated email with no connection to a listing.

Where inquiries are managed

Administrators can review every submitted inquiry in Listdom → Inquiries. Each inquiry is stored privately, so it is available for oversight without appearing as public listing content.

For the people using the directory day to day, the frontend dashboard can show an Inquiries area:

  • listing owners can review received inquiries
  • signed-in visitors can review inquiries they sent

This is especially useful when a directory has multiple owners, agents, or service providers. It keeps the contact history tied to the directory account instead of asking everyone to reconstruct it from a shared inbox.

Add Connect without creating a second messaging system

Start by installing and activating the Connect Addon. The contact actions themselves work with Listdom’s listing and profile experience; Connect supplies the private inquiry record and management workflow behind them.

If you use a custom dashboard page, add the Connect shortcodes where users need them:

  • [listdom-received-inquiries] for the owner’s received messages
  • [listdom-sent-inquiries] for a signed-in visitor’s sent messages

The Connect Addon setup guide covers the available workflow and shortcode placement. For the rest of the listing experience, make sure the single listing page gives visitors enough context before they contact an owner.

Make the contact action feel safe and obvious

Place the contact action close to the information that makes a visitor ready to ask: availability, service details, property facts, or the provider’s profile. A vague contact link at the bottom of a long page asks visitors to do too much work.

Use a specific label when it helps, such as Ask about availability, Contact this provider, or Enquire about this property. The form should explain who receives the message and request only the information the owner needs to respond.

For a directory that collects personal details, add a clear privacy note and a link to your privacy policy. The goal is not to make the form feel heavy; it is to make the exchange understandable before a visitor presses send.

Build a follow-up process around the inquiry

Connect stores the inquiry, but your team still needs a reliable response habit. Decide who owns the first reply, how quickly they should respond, and whether they should follow up by email or phone.

If you want your team to receive an alert when an inquiry arrives, pair the workflow with Listdom notifications. That keeps the directory record as the source of context while helping the right person notice a new request.

Connect is not live chat or booking

The Listdom Connect Addon is an inquiry workflow, not a real-time chat room and not a booking calendar. It captures a visitor’s request and gives the owner a structured record to act on.

That distinction is useful. A service directory may use Connect to begin a conversation before confirming scope. A property directory may use it to qualify a viewing request. When visitors need to choose a time and complete a reservation, use a dedicated booking workflow instead.

Three contact-flow models that work well

Service providers

Let visitors ask about scope, availability, or a quote. The inquiry stays tied to the provider listing, so the provider sees what service the visitor had in mind.

Property directories

Use the form for viewing requests and property questions. The listing reference gives an agent the context needed to respond without asking the visitor to repeat the property name.

Member directories

Use profile contact actions when a visitor needs to reach a specialist, organiser, or professional. The sender can check their sent inquiry later, while the member sees the received request in the dashboard.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Listdom Connect Addon let visitors contact listing owners?

Yes. Visitors can submit an inquiry through Contact Owner on a listing. The owner can review the received inquiry and follow up using the contact details the visitor supplied.

Where can an administrator see Connect inquiries?

Go to Listdom → Inquiries in the WordPress admin area to review private inquiry records.

Can visitors review messages they sent?

Signed-in users can see their sent inquiries in the frontend dashboard when the sent-inquiries view is available on that dashboard page.

Does Connect expose an owner’s personal contact details?

Connect supports a contact workflow without requiring a directory to publish an owner’s personal contact details as the only way to get in touch. Configure your listing fields and privacy policy to match the information your directory should collect and show.

Does Connect replace a booking system?

No. Connect is for inquiries and follow-up. Use a booking workflow when visitors need to select a time or complete a reservation.
